Imagine buying a large pouch of Cardio Miracle with the intention of helping your ailing mother, putting it in your carry on luggage, and heading to the airport.
As you step into the TSA line to deal with the rigmarole of removing laptop, shoes, and making sure you don’t have any liquids over 4 oz with you, suddenly you’re being stopped for more than you ever imagined could happen.
You are being tested for explosive and bomb materials from within your carefully packed luggage.
The next thing you know, you are being questioned about a product you know very little about, outside of its health properties and benefits that you are assured will help your mother in another city and state far away, and you thought this was going to just be a simple flight to her side.
This is the story of Kathryn Camp, who went through something we at Cardio Miracle hadn’t ever thought could be, and yet, it was.
TSA and heightened security at the airport is nothing new. Since 9/11 we have had to remove most of our clothing, belongings, and have our dignity embarrassingly questioned with every flight.
Even as a frequent flier, TSA Pre-check, Digital ID, CLEAR member, and all else in terms of “fast passes”, I am stopped every single time I go through TSA for random issues: too many chargers for electronics, my harmonicas (which appear on their radar as gun clips), or tin foil from sardine and tuna packets.
Yet Kathryn experienced something none of us had ever heard of, and having traveled with Cardio Miracle for years, I have never been through this either.
She was stopped, and accused, of having “bomb and explosive materials” after they tested Cardio Miracle’s active natural ingredients.
We are thankful for she called customer service to ask why this happened, as TSA confiscated her investment in health, and she was shocked by the entire experience.
We as a company were shocked to hear this was her experience, and this quickly escalated from our call center, to the leaders of our customer service team, then to management, and right to me, as president of the company.
As a company, we offered her a few solutions:
- We would replace the product taken from her wrongly at the airport, with our apologies.
- We recommended taking single serves through TSA on a carry on, rather than the full pouches, as that seemed to be the issue.
- We asked if she would share her experience on our podcast.
Graciously, she accepted all that we asked, and she and I had a great conversation.
She is a lovely, accomplished, powerful person, with an incredible life story.
She could have easily taken us to the public and social media slaughterhouse, and instead, chose to ask questions, help us raise awareness of what can happen with an overly zealous, power hungry TSA (depending on your airport, as their issues with passengers seems to be inconsistent and depends on the place), and how we can do better for our customers.
The Conclusion:
The natural and active ingredients in Cardio Miracle are so powerful that they must show up as being alarming to a video screen security officer.
The only time I have been stopped at TSA for a “powder” has been when I bring a full bag of whey protein for my protein shakes.
Others have complained online for years about baby food formula being confiscated, minerals and packets that are large with health supplements, and such.
It turns out, this is not a rarity for people to be stopped and have their bags/pouches of products confiscated or questioned heavily at TSA.
The Solution:
If you pack Cardio Miracle in your carry on, do so with the single serves. The pouches set off a warning, and likely can be confiscated.
The other solution is to check your Cardio Miracle pouch, rather than carry it on.
Kathryn mentioned that she was concerned about the environment and the waste caused by the single serves. We understand this and respect her environmental responsibility. We have also taken great care to utilize the cleanest and most environmentally friendly packaging available.
The Compromise:
We sent Kathryn the full bag, and some extra, for the hassle.
We asked that she consider taking single serves as her carry on option.
We had a great conversation, and in full transparency, are happy to have you join us for the podcast interview, we hope you find it informative, entertaining, enlightening, and inspiring.
